Grenada is the most southerly of the Windward Islands. The Windwards are a string of steep green islands between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Year-round temperatures are in the high 20’s – low 30’s C.
Most UK visitors come here between Christmas and Easter to escape to the sunshine at a time when short-haul destinations around the Mediterranean have not warmed up yet, but really it can be an all year destination.
Beaches, scuba-diving, carnivals, rain forest tours, Grenada is a small island with plenty to see and do. The tourist office has up to date information on events like sailing competitions and carnivals. There is good scuba-diving on the west coast where coral reefs swarm with fish. The capital, St George, has a laid-back feel and some great restaurants.
The centre of the island is lush rainforest with beautiful waterfalls and trees growing spices and coconuts. The nearby island of Carriacou is even smaller and more laid back than Grenada. There’s a ferry across to it and guest houses to stay.
